If my calculations are correct, all images and thumbnails uploaded to any board are shared across all boards. Therefore, posting one of the currently broken pics from /ruins/ on this board should make it available on /ruins/ too, as long as the sha256sum is the same.

Potentially recoverable files:
>original images with Twitter and Pixiv filenames can be found on their original server, as long as they're still alive
>files with an md5sum filename (32 characters) can probably be found on e621 or other boorus where you can find images by their md5sum
>finally, files with a different filename can still be recovered if there are enough clues about what the original file was
For example, pic related was uploaded to >>>/ruins/5677 as "isumi4.jpg"; looking at the other pics the artist is kuroisumi, and you can search for files with the same dimensions (855x1200):
https://e621.net/posts?tags=kuroisumi+width%3A855+height%3A1200
Out of the two results here, one of them was already in the post, we can check that the other one is the right pic because if we download it, its sha256 sum is 14dc3c..., the same one as the missing pic.

Potentially irrecoverable files:
<resized images from Twitter ("_large") or Pixiv ("_master1200"), since those are usually not cached and both Twitter and Pixiv now produce slightly different versions of those pics, therefore the sha256sum won't be the same [maybe these might be replaced by the full-size images manually, though]
<videos in general, since most of them were converted by the posters, and it's impossible to recreate a video with the same checksum; even videos downloaded from YouTube will always have different metadata depending on the version of ffmpeg used

Welp, this didn't work as planned. Clicking on the 4th file on >>>/ruins/5677 shows the full image now, but the thumbnail still doesn't show up because that post expected a JPG thumbnail and making a new post generated a PNG. Shame.

Anyways, three more pics. I don't even know if the board will generate thumbnails for these since I'm posting them hidden with a spoiler because they all are NSFW.

isumi3.png, also from >>>/ruins/5677, the thumbnail is a PNG so it might work this time. There were ten pics from this artist with these dimensions,
https://e621.net/posts?tags=kuroisumi+width%3A1060+height%3A1500
I downloaded them all, and checked the one with a sha256sum that was 5f2b9e...

5453ab..., from >>>/ruins/5531, md5sum filename, found on e621
https://e621.net/posts?tags=md5%3A5453ab8c65d51b68d9861fa754e78ba0

a53288..., from >>>/ruins/5121, found on e621 as well
https://e621.net/posts?tags=md5%3Aa53288852d1c01fc832b82efa70b370e
The Pixiv pic from the same post is an example of _master1200 compressed file that can't be recovered directly, the file at the source has a different sha256sum now

Adding Tumblr to the list of images that aren't immediately recoverable, for the same reasons as Twitter and Pixiv.

The two missing files from >>>/ruins/4912 can be found here
https://solatorobo-red-the-hunter.tumblr.com/post/108356267131
https://64.media.tumblr.com/f7b7ed2e599e10542f1ef423af6461fd/tumblr_nibqayVDhE1qkm02zo7_1280.jpg
https://64.media.tumblr.com/5d7183af03a07616779747cb5b8906ba/tumblr_nibqayVDhE1qkm02zo8_1280.jpg
But they both have a different sha256sum because "_1280" pics are downscaled, and Tumblr compresses images differently now.

Same with >>>/ruins/4941, which is still on Tumblr, but has a different checksum
https://64.media.tumblr.com/c5598053a3d896f71ea286939dc155dd/tumblr_nlxcb0FNbp1qcsc7lo1_1280.jpg

In the same thread, >>>/ruins/4914, the Twitter file CDwpSZlUMAAkC9s was 1023x570. The original is much larger, so it doesn't make much sense to recover specifically that version, but it would be completely impossible anyway, trying other versions instead of orig (small, medium, large), it doesn't seem that Twitter even serves that size anymore
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CDwpSZlUMAAkC9s?format=jpg&name=orig

Pic related is >>>/ruins/4948. That was a Deviantart filename and the file is still alive at https://fav.me/d9c1ash (Deviantart requires an account to download original files). I completely forgot about DA, this one worked out of sheer luck, but many pics don't have download enabled, and now previews are completely different there too.

Lots of phone filenames with absolutely no clue what the original file was ;_;...

Due to the nature of mincing saved webpages back into database records, most missing files will require some degree of (semi-)manual intervention, so as far as you should be concerned, it's purely a matter of tracking down the original files.
For the same reason, don't worry about searching out the exact files. I don't think anybody will be too disappointed if we replace a sample with an original.

I've uploaded missing file info to https://flyingdogis.land/file/missingRuins.zip
There are quite a few, but the lists get a lot sparser once you assume CM3D webms and screenshots are lost forever.
I've been thinking about how if saucenao has an API it may be possible to write a script to turn the thumbnails into source links.
md5s can probably be partially auto-scraped with gallery-dl by pasting them into the booru search links, like the ones in the badges.
SHA256s for files that have them can probably be searched up on TPB with curl --proxy socks5h://127.0.0.1:9050 http://owmvhpxyisu6fgd7r2fcswgavs7jly4znldaey33utadwmgbbp4pysad.onion/post/sha256/{hash}. I don't know if it has an API, but success can probably be determined by the response code, and the download link could be grabbed with a regex.
For now, though, I'd personally rather post some games in the game thread and finish the Vantacat, and make a cool Airedaile last page for it and dog poets.

Nice. I searched for all the files with md5 filenames, I got all of them, except for >>>/ruins/9515. I also searched all the remaining sha256sums on TPB and downloaded all the files that were there, so you don't have to worry about that either (for some reason the port was 9150 for me).

Here's all that I got:
https://files.catbox.moe/sg4t99.zip
- right hash: files that had the expected sha256sum, they can be replaced directly, absolutely no problem with them. I included the 5 pics I had already posted in this thread even if they weren't in the JSONs, just in case, because some of them still have missing thumbnails.
- wrong hash: files that had a Twitter, Pixiv or Tumblr filename, but whose sha256sum (and pretty often dimensions and filesize) is not the expected one because the original post was a preview and I downloaded the full size instead. Note that to make things easier, the filename is the hash field from the JSON, ie, the sha256sum they should have, not the one they actually have. This includes the Pixiv post mentioned in >>532, and the three Tumblr pics mentioned in >>533, for example.
- hash needs fixing: files that don't have a sha256sum (the field "hash" in the JSON is a timestamp, not a real hash); I only found 5 of them, most of them had an md5sum filename, one of them was a Twitter video, I'm reasonably sure that they all are the right files. Note that, just like with the other two folders, the filenames I used for these are the hash field from the JSON.

There are still a lot of missing files, and the remaining files are easily the hardest to find since this was mostly automatic but, well, at least you have a bunch of files here so hopefully I saved you some work.

There are two files I didn't include in the zip because I only thought of these afterwards, so I'm going to mention them here.
- Pic related is clearly >>>/ruins/9515, the only pic with an md5sum filename that I couldn't find. I used SauceNao and found this on Danbooru, I'm pretty sure it's the same video even if this one is notably bigger.
- Out of all the missing files there's only one SWF, >>>/ruins/2120, it's one of those files without a sha256sum, and it doesn't have a thumbnail either, but looking at the description I'm convinced it was this file, so you can use it

Images should now be added, I'll do videos later.
>(for some reason the port was 9150 for me).
Tor Browser starts its service on 9150. The standalone service uses 9050 by default.
It's pretty funny how each time the one missing SWF is konza's cat-milking flash.

You're welcome. Though, really, it's the original BO's prudence to save the board that the majority gratitude should go to.
Not to mention there are still 40 more threads I got to restore.
>I saw some old posts of mine and was disturbed it was so long ago, at the same time it was really enjoyable to view everything again.
It feels very melancholic to see how much more, I don't know, simple the times were back then. But perhaps that's just the result of becoming old and jaded.
Where'd the life take you now? You still kemopost anywhere? Still use IBs, or are you done with them?
>I apologize if this a thread that youre not supposed to reply in.
Not at all, In fact, I almost missed your post because of that.

I mostly lurk these days when it comes to imageboards, it doesn't feel the same, too much irony and a lot of pointless arguing on boards.
That was always there but it feels a lot more hostile now, I think it is just me becoming older and viewing things with way too much nostalgia.
I still really enjoy kemono artwork and life is okay. I hope you're doing well anon, seeing a little dedicated space like this is nice, I feel like people don't appreciate slower boards anymore.

Yeah. Not to say I haven't been guilty of the same thing to some degree, but it feels like everyone on the internet is becoming shallower and more obsessed with the same vapid current-thing trite day by day.
Imageboards seem to be particularly affected, as, I presume, all users who aren't irredeemable spergs keep growing out of them, finding their place in society and getting replaced by iPad-children.
In big part, I started this place to try to escape this cycle and go back to those simpler times. But those may be a river that long sailed past.
Well, even if so. Rebuilding the kemono temple, or building our own retirement home, as long as there are fluffy boys and girls I'll be content either way.

>Thank you for your hard work ♥
E-he-he, you're welcome, big-boob-dog-lady ( ̷ ̷ ̷´ω` ̷ ̷ ̷)
And danbooru has a custom ugoira player now, that's nice, I can probably copy it at some point.
Meanwhile Gelbooru has re-encoded all their video files three or four times by now.

You know, I should totally scrape all furry* source:*pixiv* stuff from danbooru (add this task to the infinite backlog). It's the only place where originals of many ugoiras now deleted from pixiv can be found.
I wanted to scrape the entirety of danbooru when the whole AI drama started, downloaded all post metadata, went "okay, now I got to figure out how danbooru calculates perceptual hashes, so that I can reuse their hashes, then I can store images by p-hashes, and relate file hashes to that in some SQLite DB". And never did that.
Honestly, I probably wouldn't have made meaningful progress on the entirety of danbooru anyway, because even before images, metadata is only the tip of the iceberg, and, for example translations would have taken a lot more effort to scrape and keep up to date.
But if it's only kemonos, perhaps it could be more manageable.
